Starting a business in Turkey: plan beyond registration
Prepare a Turkish business launch with advice on entity selection, overseas shareholder documents, banking, accounting and work-permit planning in Istanbul.
Registering a company is one step in a business launch. An overseas founder also needs a workable structure, suitable documents, banking arrangements and a plan for operating after incorporation. Start with what the business will actually do in Turkey, rather than a registration package alone.
01
Define the business before choosing an entity
A new venture, subsidiary and branch do not necessarily have the same needs. Legit Law can discuss the structure alongside your commercial activities, ownership and operational plans, and coordinate company, tax and accounting support.
- Proposed activities and whether sector-specific permissions need review
- Individual or corporate shareholders and intended management
- Customers, suppliers, premises and hiring plans
- How registration fits your banking and personal immigration objectives
02
Prepare overseas documents for the receiving authority
The document route depends on where a document is issued, who the shareholder is and which authority receives it. Confirm translation, notarisation and authentication requirements before ordering a standard document bundle. Remote representation also needs a suitable scope of authority.
- Identify shareholders, directors and the documents already available
- Confirm requirements for foreign corporate-shareholder records
- Agree proposed name, activities, address and capital arrangements
- Check the required form of any power of attorney before signing
03
Keep banking, operation and permission to work separate
After formation, the business still needs an operational setup. Bank onboarding and any work-permit application have their own checks; company registration alone is not a promise of either outcome. Discuss these objectives early so that dependencies are visible.
- Prepare bank onboarding information about ownership and activity
- Arrange accounting, tax filings and payroll as applicable
- Review work-permit needs before starting work in Turkey
- Identify ongoing compliance responsibilities, not only setup tasks
Before your consultation
- Can a Chinese company discuss setting up a Turkish subsidiary?
- Yes. Describe the parent company, planned activity and ownership structure. The entity choice and overseas corporate-document requirements should be assessed before registration work begins.
- Will incorporation give me a work permit?
- Do not assume so. Company formation and a work-permit application are separate processes. Eligibility depends on the relevant requirements and your circumstances; review this before committing to a structure.
- What will setup cost and how long will it take?
- There is no single quote appropriate to every structure. Ask for a written scope distinguishing professional fees, third-party charges and ongoing costs, and a timeline that accounts for document preparation and external decisions.
This page is general information, not advice on an individual matter. Documents, eligibility and procedure need to be confirmed against your circumstances and current requirements.
