Residence Permits in Istanbul: The Refusals That Were Avoidable

A residence permit application in Türkiye is a documentary exercise. The applicant is rarely the problem.

Address registration is where files fail Certain districts are closed to new foreign residence registrations once a quota is reached. An applicant can hold a valid lease at an address that cannot be registered. Check the district before signing anything.

The lease must be in the correct form A notarised lease or a title deed in the applicant's name is expected. An informal agreement, however genuine, will not carry the file.

Insurance must match the requested period Health insurance that expires before the permit period does, or that excludes the applicant's age bracket, will be rejected at the counter.

Financial means should be evidenced clearly Statements should show sustained funds rather than a single deposit made days before the appointment.

Renewals need diarising A late renewal is treated far less favourably than a timely one. We track renewal dates for every client file we manage.

If an application has already been refused, an appeal is possible but time-limited. The sooner the file is reviewed, the more can be done with it.
