Power of Attorney in Turkey: Buying Property or Getting Citizenship Without Staying

Many clients cannot stay in Türkiye for weeks while a purchase or application is processed. A power of attorney (vekaletname) allows a trusted representative to act for you.

What can be done with a power of attorney? - Obtaining a tax number and opening a bank account (some banks require your presence). - Signing the title deed transfer at the Land Registry. - Obtaining the valuation report and paying fees. - Submitting and following citizenship and residence applications, where allowed. - Selling property or handling rental matters later.

Where to sign it - **In Türkiye:** at any Turkish notary, with a sworn translator if you do not speak Turkish. This is usually quickest. - **Abroad:** at a Turkish consulate, or at a local notary followed by an apostille or legalisation and sworn translation in Türkiye.

Keep it specific A well-drafted power of attorney lists exactly what your representative can do. Avoid unlimited powers you do not need, and include your photo where required (for example, for title deed transactions).

You stay in control You approve each key step — property choice, price and payments — before your representative signs anything, and you receive copies of every document.
